Principal’s Message

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank website. Having celebrated 100 years of excellence in 2022, we are excited to continue our journey of providing a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment for our students.

At St Michael’s, we take immense pride in celebrating our faith through the example and values of Catherine McAuley. Our role as a Catholic school is vital in fostering spiritual growth, providing a welcoming community, and strengthening our connection to the St Michael’s parish.

Our school has earned a strong reputation for academic excellence, where we ensure every student thrives through a blend of rigorous learning and a deep commitment to their well-being. We believe that student achievement and well-being are interconnected, and together, they guide our students to grow into confident and compassionate individuals.

We are fortunate to have Micky, our wellbeing dog, who plays an important role in fostering a calm and supportive atmosphere for our students, further enhancing our focus on mental health and emotional well-being.

We are proud of our dedicated teaching and support staff, who are passionate professionals committed to providing every child with the best possible opportunities. Recently, we have completed beautiful new buildings and learning spaces that enhance our ability to deliver high-quality education in a modern and inspiring environment.

St Michael’s Catholic Primary School is also a Newman Selective Gifted Program School, catering to gifted students while ensuring that every child has the opportunity to develop leadership skills, both in their classrooms and within the wider school community.

I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and your child soon, and to share in the continued growth and success of our wonderful school community.

History
St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank opened in 1922 under the leadership of two Sisters of Mercy and the parish priest, Fr Gell. In the early days, classes were held in the church, which was built the year before, requiring classrooms to be packed up on the Friday ready for Sunday Mass.

Over the next 100 years, various building projects funded by the parish and government were undertaken, championed by the local community in need of a quality Catholic education in Meadowbank. In 1995, the Sisters of Mercy announced that they were withdrawing from the leadership of St Michael’s, and from 1996 onwards, the school has been led lay principals.

Charism
Our school is inspired by the work of the Sisters of Mercy and their founder, Catherine McAuley. Their charism is kept alive through our school values, which are based on the hallmarks of a quality Mercy Education:

  • Justice
  • Compassion
  • Faith
  • Respect
  • Service
  • Excellence
  • Hospitality
  • Stewardship

Our eight student leadership teams have the responsibility for keeping one of these Mercy Values alive throughout the school.

Mission
The mission of St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank is to provide high quality education, inspired by the actions of Jesus Christ and the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy.

Vision
To achieve this mission we will:

  • provide high quality, equitable education through implementing our KITES pedagogy and providing learning experiences which meet all students’ needs
  • educate children about the actions of Jesus Christ and the traditions of our Catholic faith and
  • embed the values of the mercy tradition into the school life.

The community of St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank is one of welcome and acceptance with a strong link between school and parish. St Michael’s includes the wider community in its day-to-day activities.

Many opportunities exist for involvement in the life of the school, and contributions from parents, grandparents and other community members in a range of activities are always warmly welcomed.

Our school is also directly involved in supporting those in need in our local community, and our families are keen to ‘give back’ to the community and work in partnership with various charities.
